Dr. Joe Shapiro officially began serving as dean of San Diego State University's College of Extended Studies in July 2007. Prior to that, he had been associate dean of CES since January 2002. While working for University of Maryland College (UMC)-Europe prior to moving to SDSU, he served as president of the European Branch-American Personnel and Guidance Association. In this capacity his service and dedication to adult education and professional training was recognized through several awards including Certificates of Commendation from the Department of Air Force and the Army Continuing Education System for a quarter century of service to the men and women of the U.S. Armed Forces and the Department of Defense Dependent Schools overseas. He has lived, traveled, lectured, and/or worked in over 30 countries and speaks German, some French, and bits and pieces of several other European languages. He earned an Ed.D. in guidance and counseling and an M.A.E. in counseling from Ball State University, and an M.S. in computer science and a B.S. in management engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.

Dr. Bill Fornadel joined the College in November 2007 as associate dean for administration. He has worked in higher education and business for more than 20 years, and was the director of academic, post baccalaureate, and executive development programs for the University of Virginia's School of Continuing and Professional Studies for the seven years before coming to CES. He earned his doctorate in management and higher education from the University of Virginia, a Master's of Education in Student Personnel Services from Southern Illinois University, and an undergraduate psychology degree from the College of New Jersey. He worked at Southern Illinois University at Carbondale, the State University of New York at Stony Brook, and the Institute of Textile Technology before returning to his alma mater at Virginia in 2000.

Jan Wahl oversees the growth and development of the College of Extended Studies programming areas including Extension, Professional Development and the American Language Institute (ALI). She is an SDSU graduate who has an undergraduate degree in health education and a master's degree in educational technology from the University of British Columbia. Her professional activities include memberships in local, regional and international continuing education and distance education professional associations. She serves on advisory committees and boards, is a presenter at national and international conferences and is currently a member of the Learning Resources Network Board of Directors.

Tamara McLeod is responsible for the Professional Development Division. This area supports corporate training solutions for HR/training directors, plus certificate options for individuals seeking career growth. Certificates range from supervisory skills to construction (online) to the "business of wine." These programs are held in CES' facilities and also tailored for delivery at company locations.

An SDSU College of Business graduate, Tamara brings extensive work experience in the corporate, not-for-profit and entrepreneurial environments to CES. She is a past president of the SDSU Alumni Association and Public Relations Society of America (PRSA), San Diego Chapter and a former board member for the local chapter of the American Cancer Society. Prior to joining SDSU's College of Extended Studies in 1998, she served as managing partner of a marketing communications firm in Mission Valley for 13 years. Before that, she served as vice president for The Gable Agency. Earlier in her career, she was editor of KPBS On Air magazine and a corporate communications specialist for San Diego Trust & Savings Bank.
