Please Note: Undergraduate students who have been disqualified from SDSU will not be allowed to attend Open University or classes through the SDSU College of Extended Studies' Special Sessions until one year has passed from the date of their disqualification. Graduate students will not be allowed for one semester following disqualification.
You can select from the courses offered in SDSU's current class schedule. The registration process is easy; University admission is not required. These classes are offered on a space-available basis only. We cannot guarantee a space or that you will be accepted into any class. Instructors are not required to accept Open University students even if space is available.
To obtain a class schedule: Current SDSU class schedules may be viewed on the web at: sdsu.edu/schedule. University General Catalogs and Graduate Catalogs are available at the bookstore. They may also be ordered via the web at: www.aztecshops.com.
Credit/Grades: Open University course credit is non-matriculated resident credit. Students who have not been admitted to the University will still receive resident credit. Twenty-four units of Open University credit may be applied toward an SDSU undergraduate degree. For graduate students, not more than 30% of coursework taken in Open University prior to admission to an advanced degree or advanced certificate are acceptable on a program of study. For more information, contact the Division of Graduate Affairs at gra@mail.sdsu.edu, visit http://arweb.sdsu.edu/es/admissions/grad or call (619) 594-5213. Open University courses and grades appear on the SDSU transcript and affect your SDSU GPA.
Online SDSU Web Portal Accounts: All Extended Studies students taking credit courses who need to access SDSU online services (transcripts, library, blackboard, etc.) should create an SDSU web portal account by going to sdsu.edu/e-services.
Blackboard: Open University students must register, complete payment, and create an SDSU Web Portal account prior to signing on to Blackboard.
Four easy steps to register
- Check the University's class schedule for the courses you want, and check the website to see which courses are open.
- Obtain an Open University enrollment form/information sheet from Extended Studies, SDSU academic department offices, or download from our website using the link above. Each form can accommodate four classes. Forms are available one week prior to the start of the semester. Do not use the registration form in the College of Extended Studies catalog.
- Attend the first class to obtain an SDSU add code OR the instructor's signature on your registration form. (add codes are required to register online). The following classes are not available to Open University students: BA 650, 651, 652, 653, 655, 662, 665, & 795.
- Register online, by mail, or in person at Extended Studies by the deadlines below. Open University fees are $240 per unit for undergraduate courses and $260 per unit for graduate courses (600 level and above). Mailed forms are considered received as of the postmark date. We accept cash, checks, MasterCard, American Express, Discover Card, and Visa. Faxed forms cannot be accepted.
