Welcome to the SDSU College of Extended Studies/East Asia Regional Council of Overseas Schools (EARCOS) online registration information page. This page features information about upcoming EARCOS training programs and registration information.
Courses approved for ED X997 credit are fully reviewed and approved by the
faculty of the College of Education. These graduate level courses offered through
the College of Extended Studies are designed to meet the needs of educators
who wish to develop or continue the study of a current topic. Courses numbered
at the 900 level are not designed to be applicable to graduate programs at SDSU
but like all transferable credit may, with approval from the receiving institution,
be applicable to degrees at that institution.
SDSU credit enrollment is limited to registered workshop participants.
We are very pleased to announce that all students enrolled in SDSU courses are now able to print unofficial
transcripts and order official transcripts online at www.sdsu.edu/webportal.
There is a $4 fee for an official transcript; all other Web Portal services are free.
A late fee of $20 will be charged to any registrations received after the deadline listed. You may
contact the College of Extended Studies Registration Office at ces.registrar@sdsu.edu
for information about how to submit a late registration or other registration questions.

Teaching with the 7 Keys to Comprehension |
This interactive workshop takes participants on a journey into their own reading. It is based on the premise that for adults to understand and teach the comprehension strategies outlined in Mosaic of Thought and 7 Keys to Comprehension, they must first consciously apply them in their own reading. It explores the visible and invisible sides of reading, provides an overview of the comprehension strategies and opportunities to apply the strategies in adult pieces, and explores the key components of an effective readers’ workshop, including modeling, "think-alouds," written responses to reading, and creating a vibrant classroom environment. It gives teachers the tools they need to teach reading comprehension explicitly and addresses the concern that students can read the words, but they don’t really understand.
Course Requirements
1. Attendance and participation in the entire institute.
2. As a culminating exercise, each student will submit a three- to five-page paper (double-spaced, typed, 650 word min.) in which they synthesize the various experiences that took place during the institute. The purpose of the paper is to describe the best concepts or practices related to advanced placement instruction and curriculum and describe how you will integrate or apply the new information in your work setting. Please include a cover page with your name, contact information, and course title. The paper is due no later than February 5, 2010. You may submit this paper via email to jbarrett@mail.sdsu.edu or via postal mail to the address below, or by fax.
