Certificate ProgramProfessional Certificate in Construction Inspection

The Professional Certificate in Construction Inspection is invaluable for people in the construction field seeking to develop and expand their construction skills. Students will learn how to become a building/special inspector while understanding specific or recognized code sections that apply to each course. All courses are endorsed by the San Diego Chapter of the Association of General Contractors and the ICC.

This program has been redesigned to provide students with a variety of inspection skills. Additionally, students will learn the basics of laboratory and field testing, underground utilities, building rough-in and top-out inspections, report writing, and gain an overall understanding of the roles of the building inspector and special inspector.

The Certificate
To earn the Professional Certificate in Construction Inspection you are required to successfully complete four of the following seven courses: Concrete, Masonry, Structural Steel, Electrical, Plan Reading, Pre-stressed Concrete, and Wood Frame.

CEUs
Continuing Education Units (CEUs) available and accepted by the International Code Council (ICC). CEUs are $30 per class. For more information on CEUs, see Registration Information/CEUs.

Fall 2009 Courses

Concrete Inspection
This course introduces you to the skills necessary to become a reinforced concrete special inspector. Key topics include: concrete quality control, proper inspection and testing procedures, the International Building Code, report writing, basic structural engineering principles, and plan reading. A field trip to a commercial testing lab is also planned.

Instructor: Stephen Campbell, lab supervisor, Christian Wheeler Engineering.

Electrical Inspection
This course will cover the fundamental phases of electrical inspection. The curriculum includes three basic types of electrical installation inspection, which are commercial, industrial, and residential. The course provides a systematic approach to the inspection process. Topics include underground inspection, service entrance equipment, feeder distribution, and branch circuit layout.
