Anne Bromley has long had a penchant for writing. She has been writing since the age of nine when she was encouraged by her fourth grade teacher to write a play about Johnny Tremain, who was drawn into the Revolutionary War and became a patriot fighting to free the colonies from England.
“I just loved my little notebook and diary with dry leaves and flowers,” she said. “It was my own little secret hiding place.”
There has been no hiding Bromley’s writing ability since. She has published two books of poetry with Carnegie Mellon University Press (Scenes from the Light Years and Midwinter Transport), a book of translations with SUNY Press (Poems by Rosalia de Castro) and her first children’s book with Tilbury House Publishers
(The Lunch Thief).

“What’s happening now is that more and more people are being called into management positions and forced to write,” she said. “They get kicked upstairs and realize they are not very good communicators in writing. It has caused a lot of problems in the workplace. We’ve had so many issues where people need help.”
Scott Tant of Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton is among students who have taken the program.
“The class was excellent. I just received a promotion where I’m involved in writing and editing contract specifications. The instructor brought out a lot of great suggestions in regard to the thought process before one begins to write, which I have already implemented. The instructor did an outstanding job in both her presentation and teaching,” he said.
This is a SDSU Research Foundation program.
