Deborah Buzan, PHR, Human Resources Director
Buzan has more than 25 years of human resources experience in a variety of industries, and currently provides support to the finance, legal, administration, IT, and global account management divisions of Cymer, an industrial equipment supplier. Buzan previously served as vice president of HR for local organizations Eagle Creek Travel Gear and By Referral Only, where she developed and implemented numerous strategic HR programs and was instrumental in shaping the company culture. Early in her career, Buzan was on the HR team at Petco Animal Supplies, and the benefits manager for Souplantation. One of her proudest career moments is when a fellow executive told her she "put the human back in Human Resources." Buzan has her AA degree in business management from Grossmont College, and her Human Resources Management certification from UCSD Extension.
Jean Center, CEO, Principal Consultant
Center has been working with organizations to ensure maximum return on their human capital investment since she founded the Center Group in 1998. Clients include emerging technology start-ups to established Fortune 500 companies. She is an expert and speaker on a wide range of topics, from retention strategies to recruiting a global workforce to performance-based recognition and reward systems. Center also held key management positions at Mellon Bank Corporation, earned a BS in business from Robert Morris University, attended Carnegie-Mellon University's Graduate School of Industrial Administration, and completed the Harvard/MIT/Tufts program on Increasing Human Resources Effectiveness. As an adjunct instructor at SDSU, she was honored as an Outstanding Instructor of the Year. Center is a co-chair for the CommNexus HR SIG, and the Center Group is a founding sponsor for EvoNexus.
Michelle Dean, Associate Professor of Management

Dean holds a Ph.D. in business administration with an emphasis in human resource management/organizational behavior, and industrial/organizational psychology; and has published her research on recruitment, selection, and diversity and inclusion in a variety of journals including Academy of Management Journal, and Journal of Applied Psychology. Recognition for her research includes a Top Paper Award at the Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology Conference (2012). Recognition at SDSU includes the Most Influential Professor Award in Management (2007, 2014), College of Business Administration Aztec Business Achievement Award for Most Influential Professor (2014), and the Outstanding Faculty Contribution Award (2007, 2014). Prior to joining the faculty at SDSU in 2002, Dean taught at the University of North Texas, the University of Oklahoma, and Louisiana State University.

From the flagship property in Las Vegas to Harrah's Cherokee in North Carolina and now Harrah's Rincon in Valley Center, CA, Keers has played a pivotal role in developing award-winning HR programs and practices for Harrah's Entertainment Inc. for more than 30 years. Her programs increased employee satisfaction, decreased turnover, and led to Harrah's Rincon receiving the 2007, 2011 and 2013 Workplace Excellence Award from the SDSHRM. In 2009 she won the Excellence in Leadership Award, the highest honor the company can bestow. Harrah's Rincon also had a first-place win in the SDBJ's Healthiest Companies 2013 awards. Keers is a graduate of the University of Nevada, Las Vegas with a BS in business administration, and is a member of SDSHRM.

A 20-year veteran in the human resources field, Myers has hotel, nonprofit, and retail experience, and has been with Stanford Hotels since her hire in 2002. One of her career highlights — in preparation for the Clarion Hotel's closure for rebuild — was facilitating the placement of its associates in positions at other downtown hotels by coordinating a job fair that educated them in resume writing and interview finesse. Myers' serves as president for the San Diego Hospitality Human Resources Association. She has been married for 28 never-boring years and has two grown sons that she adores.

He has a Bachelor of Science degree in health care management from Southern Illinois University, is certified as an Associate in Risk Management (ARM) by the Insurance Institute of America, holds a certificate in safety and health management from the University of Southern California, is a Certified Occupational Safety Specialist (COSS) and trainer through the Pacific Safety Council, and an authorized OSHA Outreach Trainer.
