Restaurant Classes Meet Your Hunger for Education
SAN DIEGO, Thursday, November 15, 2007 - Satisfy your hunger and quench your thirst for
knowledge and skills about careers in the restaurant industry through continuing education
courses offered by San Diego State University's College of Extended Studies (CES).
With the booming California wine industry setting record growth standards, the SDSU-CES
offers a professional certificate in the business of wine designed to enable you understand
the trends and nuances of restaurant wine management. Employers in wine-related businesses
prefer to interview job candidates who have a solid understanding of the wine basics. The
SDSU-CES program will prepare you with the knowledge and skills necessary to achieve success
in numerous wine-related occupations. Participants in this program include industry restaurant
managers, owners, entrepreneurs, winery employees, bartenders, bar managers, and others
interested in moving into these kinds of careers.
Many classes are held off-site at restaurants and wineries. You must be 21 years of age
to register for this program.
The College also offers a professional certificate in hospitality that provides high-quality
training and development to prepare employees for the many disciplines of the hospitality,
restaurant, resort, hotel, and entertainment arenas. Core courses include Hospitality Overview,
Exceptional Guest Service and Leadership in Hospitality, Managing Performance and Development,
and Understanding the Profit Picture.
This program is targeted to entry-level managers, supervisors, leads, coordinators, front
desk, and support staff within the professional fields of hospitality and culinary arts.
Whether you are currently in the hospitality industry, seeking a career transition, or brand
new to this exciting field, this program will allow you to meet your needs.
The College also offers several individual courses designed to advance your career in the
hospitality industry. A course in restaurant management and operations enables you to learn
the organization and management of food service. This course focuses on dining room management
and operations, sales promotion, occupational levels and responsibilities, legal aspects,
insurance, and labor management. People working toward the American Culinary Federation
certification and recertification, with petition will find this course to be very valuable.
The workplace Spanish class will help you gain the functional language skills to become
more effective, confident, and service-oriented in meeting the needs of the diverse clients
and staff in the hospitality industry.
SDSU's College of Extended Studies offers a wide variety of lifelong learning classes,
seminars, and certificate programs. Career advancement courses are offered in many areas
of management, leadership, and quality improvement while self-enrichment courses range from
