College Helps Prepare the Next Generation
of Healthcare Providers
SAN DIEGO, Thursday, December 22, 2005 - San Diego State University's
College of Extended Studies is introducing its Professional Certificate
in Healthcare Education during the spring 2006 semester.
This dynamic new program provides healthcare professionals the
training design and implementation skills needed to create and deliver
the most effective training possible in today's demanding healthcare
environment. Students will gain the tools needed to succeed in their
careers as healthcare providers and educators, while also preparing
the next generation of healthcare professionals.
The new program will rely heavily on practice, mentoring, self-reflection
and application of the knowledge, skills and abilities developed
in the classroom. The program's four core courses (5-7 sessions
each) include:
- Adult Learning
- Curriculum Development
- Instructional Effectiveness
- Measurement and Assessment
In addition to successful completion of the four core courses,
a final project will be required to receive the Certificate. By
the end of the program, participants will have created a complete
project portfolio ready for on-the-job implementation.
Also in health care, the College of Extended Studies Open University
offers a Gerontology Certificate through Open University. The Open
University program allows individuals to enroll in courses, space
permitting, without being formally admitted to the university.
Participants can take classes to finish a degree, for career advancement,
or for personal enrichment through Open University. Certain restrictions
apply and our friendly and courteous educational counselors will
be happy to discuss details with you via phone or email.
This program enables working adults and high school students the
opportunity to enroll in SDSU's classes without the requirements
of university application and admittance. On a space-available basis,
Open University students can earn credit toward a degree, update
their professional skills, or investigate a new career. Employers
have found it helpful to send employees to selected work-related
courses to enhance their on-the-job productivity.
Students can apply up to 24 units of Open University credit.
The Certificate Program in Gerontology is designed for people working
in the field of aging, as well as those interested in entering the
field. Completion of the certificate program enables participants
to assume greater responsibility in this specialty.
SDSU's College of Extended Studies offers a wide variety of lifelong
learning classes, seminars, and certificate programs. Career advancement
courses are offered in many areas of management, leadership, and
quality improvement while self-enrichment courses range from astronomy
to web design. Additionally, the College offers over 30 certificate
