College Offers New Certificate in Global Human Resource Management

SAN DIEGO, Wednesday, December 14, 2005 - If you're looking for a new job or want to update your skills, professional certificate programs are an educational option that can serve as an effective employment tool.

Certificates are recognized by most employers as a significant academic accomplishment and can lead to new jobs, as well as promotions for those who obtain them. They are also typically more relevant and focused for today's workforce than academic degrees and can be completed in a much shorter period of time.

The new Professional Certificate in Global Human Resource Management program offered by San Diego State University's College of Extended Studies is designed for business managers and HR professionals with at least two years of practical HR experience. The primary focus will be on the global practice and application of human resources.

HR industry experts who work in global businesses will teach, and speakers from corporations around Southern California will give new insight and practical advice.

Among the attendees are expected to be managers and HR professionals working in San Diego with offices overseas, graduates of the HRM certificate who want to broaden their scope of knowledge, experienced international managers and professionals who want to review for the Global Professional Human Resource certification, HR consultants, small businesses that work globally, and companies facing mergers and acquisitions.

Courses include: Strategic HR Management, Global Staffing, Global Remuneration, Global Benefits, Global Organizational Effectiveness and Employee Development, International Assignment Management, and Global Employee Relations and the Law.

This new certificate program helps students:

  • Gain knowledge in areas of global compensation, termination laws, safety and security, and overseas benefits
  • Share best practices in global HR practices
  • Discuss the factors driving the rapid growth of global business
  • Define the roles, activities, and competencies for global HR professionals
  • Learn HR strategies to support international mergers and acquisitions
  • Identify key trends in global human resources
  • Prepare for the Global Professional Human Resources Certification (GPHR) test
