Accelerated Criminal Justice Program Offered
Year-Round by CES
SAN DIEGO, Wednesday, April 6, 2005 - San Diego State University's
College of Extended Studies offers a variety of classes related
to criminal justice and security issues.
Presented by the College of Extended Studies and School of Public
Administration and Urban Studies at SDSU, Criminal Justice Administration
is a degree program for the working adult. Evening and weekend courses
are offered year-round in intensive 6-10 week sessions. An accelerated
program can be completed in as little as two years.
The program includes a course on Contemporary Correctional Administration,
which is part of the curriculum for earning a Criminal Justice Administration
Bachelor of Applied Arts and Sciences Degree. This program covers
contemporary policies and practices of local, state, and federal
correctional agencies, the influence of reform movements, and the
interrelationship of corrections with other criminal justice components.
The Constitutional Issues in the Administration of Justice class
focuses on the Fourth, Fifth, Sixth, and Eighth Amendments of the
United States Constitution. The class will explore how these Constitutional
Amendments dramatically affect prosecutors, defense attorneys, police
officers, private citizens, and various other aspects of the criminal
justice system.
In the Investigation and Report class, there is an analysis of
special topics.
A class in Social Control, Social Policy, and Administration of
Justice includes theory and practice of governmental administration
in differing environments, role of administrators in public policy,
issues facing administrators, and techniques of administration.
The Professional Certificate in Casino Gaming course now offers
a Casino Security course. Students in the course currently study
"Gaming Regulations on Sovereign Soil," where they learn
how unique the Indian tribe environment is in San Diego. Topics
will include: gaming compacts, local and tribal government, critical
issues such as revenue sharing, mitigating issues of Indian gaming
on surrounding communities, expansion of Indian gaming, and issues
of governmental authority and jurisdiction. Speakers will include
industry professionals.
Students may also learn to "Be Your Own Private Investigator"
in another class. From the minute you are born until the day you
die, all important events of your life are recorded in public records.
Such information is available on both individuals and businesses.
This course teaches you to learn how to obtain such information.
Topics will include how to search public records and databases,
obtain information from credit agencies, search techniques, and
business opportunities. The seminar will be useful to just about
anyone, including: adoptees, attorneys, birth parents, bill collectors,
brokers, business owners, genealogists, investors, investigators,
journalists, landlords, paralegals, researchers, and business partners.
SDSU's College of Extended Studies offers a wide variety of lifelong
learning classes, seminars, and certificate programs. Career advancement
courses are offered in many areas of management, leadership, and
quality improvement while self-enrichment courses range from astronomy
to web design. Additionally, the College offers over 30 certificate
