Security-Related Courses on Tap for New
Semester
SAN DIEGO, Wednesday, September 1, 2004 __ Security issues continue
to be at the forefront in today's turbulent world.
San Diego State University's College of Extended Studies offers
several security-related classes of great value to students.
Among them is Survey of Forensic Science I. This course
will introduce students to the various specialized disciplines that
interface and integrate with the criminal justice system to solve
and answer questions at law. It is an introduction and overview
of the forensic sciences to include: forensic pathology, odontology,
anthropology, entomology, serology, hair and fiber analysis instrumentation,
questioned documents, and forensic psychology.
Students may also learn to Be Your Own Private Investigator
in another class. From the minute you are born until the day you
die, all important events of your life are recorded in public records.
Such information is available on both individuals and businesses.
This course teaches you to learn how to obtain such information.
Topics will include how to search public records and databases,
obtain information from credit agencies, search techniques, and
business opportunities. The seminar will be useful to just about
anyone, including: adoptees, attorneys, birth parents, bill collectors,
brokers, business owners, genealogists, investors, investigators,
journalists, landlords, paralegals, researchers, and business partners.
The new Professional Certificate in Casino Gaming course now offers
a Casino Security course. Students in the course currently study
Gaming Regulations on Sovereign Soil, where they learn how
unique the Indian tribe environment is in San Diego. Topics will
include: gaming compacts, local and tribal government, critical
issues such as revenue sharing, mitigating issues of Indian gaming
on surrounding communities, expansion of Indian gaming, and issues
of governmental authority and jurisdiction. Speakers will include
industry professionals.
Presented by the College of Extended Studies and School of Public
Administration and Urban Studies at SDSU, Criminal Justice Administration
is a degree program for the working adult. Evening and weekend courses
are offered year-round in intensive 6-10 week sessions. An accelerated
program can be completed in as little as two years.
The program includes a course on Contemporary Correctional Administration,
which is part of the curriculum for earning a Criminal Justice Administration
Bachelor of Applied Arts and Sciences Degree. This program covers
contemporary policies and practices of local, state, and federal
correctional agencies, the influence of reform movements, and the
interrelationship of corrections with other criminal justice components.
A course in Juvenile Justice Administration covers assessment
of the structure and functions of agencies and institutions that
comprise the juvenile justice system in America; evolution of policies
and programs for prevention of delinquency and treatment of the
juvenile offender.
SDSU's College of Extended Studies offers a wide variety of lifelong
learning classes, seminars, and certificate programs. Career advancement
